I don’t talk about it much, but my business technically started as a side hustle in 2015.

I was in my late twenties and kicked things off with a couple of in-person sassy self-love workshops. I was working full-time (Monday to Friday) in a marketing job and doing a heap of personal development workshops. After a workshop about designing your ideal life, it became VERY clear that I wasn’t aligned with what I was doing.

A lot has changed since those workshops in 2015. In 2024, my business is my sole source of income and has been for years. It didn’t happen overnight, despite what a lot of online marketers might tell you, so I wanted to share my story so you can see how things have unfolded for me – no silver bullets in sight.

Phase 1: Beta testing

The first few business clients I saw were essentially beta testers. I charged $20 for a group workshop of 4 people on the back deck at my house and quickly realised that I had a lot of insight and knowledge about marketing that others didn’t.

Phase 2: Stopped trying to serve everyone

Phase 2: Stopped trying to serve everyone

In March 2016, I won a trip to Bali with my first-ever business coach, Tash Corbin. It was a three day intensive with her to work on my business. Back then, I was trying to offer a bazillion different services to small businesses, and my website offered SO MUCH. If I couldn’t do it myself (copywriting, content, social media), I had a person I could send you to (logo design, bookkeeping, website builds). The key outcome from the time I spent with Tash was that I selected ONE service to niche down into and focus on. I chose to focus on organic Facebook marketing (ad-free).

Phase 3: Started out with single sessions

I remember having a hand-drawn poster on my wall with lots of hearts that made up a big dollar sign. That was my income tracking poster and I distinctly remember charging $45 per session and celebrating every sale that I made.

Selling single sessions allowed me to test out my offer without needing to develop an entire package. While I had a business degree and real-world marketing experience, I was fairly new to the coaching space. The time, energy and financial commitment were worth it for my clients, and I was enthusiastic to learn and develop my skills. It created a lot of raving fans who loved my work and recommended me to their community and across the internet. I’m really proud of my 5-star rating on my FB business page. The recommendations and referrals still continue to this day, and I am so grateful for every money-can’t-buy word-of-mouth referral – they’re so powerful!

Single sessions also meant that I worked with a lot of different clients in a lot of different industries. I could see patterns in who I liked working with the most, as well as who really needed my services. Repeat clients paved the way for bundles (more on that below).

Phase 4: Price increases

Starting at $45 per session made it really easy for me to sell my services. I didn’t start at hundreds of dollars per hour, I had humble beginnings and it worked for me. It meant that I wasn’t charging an amount that was beyond what felt comfortable for my money mindset at the time so I didn’t sabotage myself.  It allowed me to test if my offer worked, AND to practice and refine my delivery, communication and systems quickly because the investment wasn’t a barrier. It’s important to note that I started this whilst having the financial stability of full time paid employment.

My prices increased incrementally in the first few years of my business from those first $45 sessions to $75 to $99 to $129 to $149 to $199 to $250 and beyond (see current pricing here) – and let me tell you – I remember every single increase! Despite the doubt in my mind, after every price increase I’ve had, someone has inevitably purchased at the new price.

There is a lot of advice out there that suggests you charge your worth, and I don’t disagree. But I started low and worked my way up, and it worked really well for me. It gave me credibility, testimonials, word-of-mouth referrals, consistent bookings and loads of practice that I might not have gotten if I started at a higher price point.

Phase 5: Bundles and packages

When clients started booking multiple single sessions, it became clear that perhaps I needed to introduce bundles. I created a 4-session bundle and offered them to repeat clients. They were cheaper than purchasing 4 single sessions which incentivised the bundles over single sessions. By committing to multiple sessions with me, they really saw the benefit of regular support which paved the way for some done-for-you packages.

In helping people create their social media content, it became clear that it was much easier and faster for me to do the content for my clients. We’d chat and I’d use their words to create engaging content for them. My Virtual Assistant (VA) would make their graphics and schedule the content for them so they could focus on other parts of their business. Done for you work is still something that clients want in my bespoke packages to this day. It goes far beyond social media content nowadays, and includes things like email marketing, newsletters, website copy, presentation slides and marketing materials.

Phase 6: Change of niches

Along the way, my work has evolved. I retired the Facebook content services in favour of teaching intuition, which then evolved into Intuitive Business Coaching & Mentoring. My skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise rolled into one, and when it came full circle, my business exploded, and my revenue tipped into 6 figures. Owning ALL of me was wildly successful; who knew?! Lol #facepalm.

The explosion of my biz and revenue was the result of a variety of factors. Some of the main contributors:

  • Flipped my money mindset from scarcity to abundance
  • Truckloads of subconscious fear work
  • Mentoring, coaching and spiritual direction
  • Thousands of dollars and many years of personal and professional development
  • Consistency in my biz for years
  • Not being afraid to market myself again and again
  • Raving fans who love me and my work regardless of what I do
  • Unrelenting in my pursuit of financial freedom
  • Being a good coach committed to continuous improvement

Phase 7: Packages

In 2019 I switched to packages only. I recognised the benefit of working with me for a chunk of time, so I retired single sessions and created a 3 and 6-month package. This has hands-down been the best thing for me, in terms of regular recurring revenue.

People who have bought from us are the ones who are most likely to buy from us again. This is amplified after a 3mth package! A number of my clients have been clients for YEARS. Long-term clients are wonderful because I know them and their businesses SO well. My work is powerful regardless, but I can offer you so much more when we’ve been working together for a while. There’s a richness and depth that only comes with time.

I literally didn’t offer anything else except those 2 package options. If you wanted to work with me you could choose 3 or 6 months and it was SO easy when it came to marketing.

After the pandemic, I added a 2:1 option to the 3-month package, whereby people could share a package that gives them access to me at a fraction of the price, and whilst they share the time, they get the added benefit of a built-in accountability buddy. This made working with me more accessible whilst still only offering packages.

Phase 8: Diversifying beyond 2 packages

After a few years of great success with my packages, it was time to diversify my income and create some leveraged income sources. I wanted to earn revenue without being so involved. I wanted the flexibility to take time off and still earn revenue or add to my existing revenue if I continued to see clients. I wanted the freedom to choose.

This was designed to support our goals to set off in a campervan full time and retire my husband before he turned 40. In January 2024 he turned 38, and retired a few weeks later.

Choosing to introduce leveraged income sources was a very strategic decision, a way for us to generate more dollars without me having to double or triple my workload. I am continuing to add to the list of on-demand things you can access from me, and if you have any requests, my virtual door is open. Send me DM or email, I’d love to hear from you about what I can create to support you to move to the next stage of business growth.

So for now, here are some of the things you can access without working with me 1:1:
